Q. What is a buying group?
A buying group is a collective of businesses and other organisations that use their bulk spending power to obtain low contract prices with a large number of suppliers.
Pelican are an established Buying Group committed to offering the lowest procurement prices with a range of exceptional value-added services for all our members.
Our vision is to not only save our members money, but to exceed their expectations in offering unbeatable customer service and assistance.
Please visit our “About Us” page for more information.
Q. What makes Pelican so different from other buying groups?
Our dedication to value – and not just in the monetary sense. At Pelican we realise that for our members to be truly happy with the service they receive, we need to offer far more than just low prices.
Please see our “Smarter Purchasing” page for more information.
Q. How much money can I save with Pelican?
Thanks to the collective strength of our members, we now have £125 million of buying power. We use this tremendous volume to negotiate incredible low prices with our suppliers which we then pass on to YOU, as a member, meaning that you could spend substantially less on the goods and services you regularly purchase.
Pelican’s FREE price check service compares your current spend with our supplier prices on a like-for-like basis. This enables us to identify exactly how much you can expect to save by joining Pelican, and make recommendations based on these findings. It’s often possible to continue to use the same supplier, but Pelican’s cleverly negotiated terms will enable you to make savings regardless!
Q. How do I know I can't get better deals independently?
With so many members our buying power is substantial. We use this weight to negotiate with suppliers, meaning that new Pelican members can often continue to use their existing suppliers through Pelican – but for our much lower contract prices, saving them money.
Our in-house professional pricing analysts, run monthly checks to ensure that all of our prices remain in line with the lowest available in the market. Put simply: we shop around on your behalf!

Contact us. We will be happy to ensure that you are enjoying Pelican's terms and we’ll manage the process for you to ensure that the service you receive continues as normal, but on the prices we have negotiated.
Q. I would like to receive a price list for one of Pelican's nominated suppliers, who do I contact?

Q. How do I order my goods?
Directly with the supplier – but don’t forget that as your buying partner we’re here to help should you have any problems.
Q. How do I pay for my goods?
You can either pay via Pelican’s Central Billing service, making use of the convenient monthly direct debit facility, or you can continue to pay the supplier direct. It’s up to you!
Q. Do I have to use all of Pelican's suppliers or can I still use local suppliers?
The decision is yours. You can use as many or as few of Pelican's nominated suppliers, as you like, and continue to use your own suppliers as you wish.
Q. So how does Pelican make its money?
The majority of our income is generated through our supplier relationships - they pay us a small amount based on the total volume of sales with them.
Q. How many suppliers does Pelican work with?
We currently work with in excess of 180 food, non-food and equipment suppliers.
Q. Are Pelican nominated suppliers quality checked?
All nominated suppliers undergo stringent quality and service checks, ensuring that they conform to relevant legislation and standards. All produce is fully traceable and Pelican holds copies of supporting documentation and independent food safety audits. These checks can take up to 6 months so a great deal of work goes into ensuring that when you buy through Pelican, you are only buying from the best.
