Equality & diversity policy
Pelican is committed to the principles of equality & diversity and recognise that the success of a business depends on people. Capitalising on what is unique about individuals and drawing on their different perspectives and experiences will add value to the way we do business.
We are actively opposed to any form of discrimination accorded to customers, potential customers, suppliers, staff and job applicants. We are committed to tackling all forms of discrimination including those on the grounds of race, religious belief or non belief, nationality, ethnic or national origin, gender, HIV status, sexual orientation, trans-gender status, marital status, civil partnership status, age or disability.
We all have a responsibility to embrace and support this vision and must continue to challenge behaviour and attitudes that prevent us from achieving this. Using fair, objective and innovative employment practices, our aim is to ensure that:
- All employees and potential employees are treated fairly and with respect at all stages of their employment.
- All employees have the right to be free from harassment and bullying of any description, or any other form of unwanted behaviour.
- All employees have an equal chance to contribute and to achieve their potential, irrespective of any defining feature that may give rise to unfair discrimination.
- All customers, potential customers and suppliers are treated fairly and with respect.
We strive to achieve our aims by creating and sustaining a working environment in which individual diversity is valued and all employees are able to contribute freely and achieve their maximum potential. By accessing, recruiting and developing talent from the widest possible talent pool we can gain an insight into different markets and generate greater creativity in anticipating customer needs.
Decisions on employment, promotion, training, salaries and recognition are made only on the basis of business need, coupled with an individual’s abilities, skills, experience, potential and contribution.
Decisions relating to discipline and dismissal are to be handled objectively and free from bias. Discrimination in these decisions on grounds not directly related to job requirements is expressly forbidden.
The co-operation of all employees is essential to the success of this policy. Although ultimate responsibility for achieving the policy’s objectives and for ensuring compliance with the relevant Acts of Parliament as well as the various Codes of Practice lies with the Company, all employees have a duty to uphold this policy. All employees must therefore ensure that they follow procedures and act fairly, impartially and consistently when dealing with their colleagues, potential recruits, suppliers, customers and potential customers. The Company will not tolerate any actions, comments, jokes or other conduct in the workplace that create an intimidating or otherwise offensive environment.
If a member of staff feels that the letter and general intent of the equality & diversity policy has not been fully implemented then she/he should draw this to the attention of her/his line manager in the first instance. If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved she/he may raise a grievance through the company’s grievance procedure.
