schools & colleges - testimonials

Earlier in the year, Pelican was contacted by Farley Hill School near Reading following a recommendation from Bayliss School in Slough.  Farley Hill thought that we might be able to help the school with its plans to build a kitchen.

Following meetings between Pelican’s Purchasing Adviser and the team at Farley Hill, we then met with the Board of Governors in order to satisfy them that Pelican could help them achieve their goal.

The Headteacher and Governors were determined to provide their pupils with a cooked lunch that was prepared on the premises rather than continuing with a delivered meal service.  Teaching staff, governors, members of the PTA and pupils alike all got behind the project that led to the opening of Farley Hill’s very own kitchen.

Our Purchasing Adviser’s catering experience (this particular member of staff is a trained chef) came in useful at many stages of the project from helping select a suitable layout for the newly built kitchen to organising menu selections and establishing ordering volumes.

On the opening day itself, our Purchasing Adviser, along with many individuals and companies that had been involved, rolled up his sleeves and donned his chefs’ whites as he joined the school’s catering manager and her assistant in the kitchen.   Parents were invited to lunch on the first day which meant that the team really had their work cut out for them as they prepared a total of 355 lunches!   All this activity and in the glare of the media spotlight: local interest was such that Meridian TV covered the opening!

The school lunch provision at Farley Hill goes from strength to strength. Projections for the new term indicate that 170 lunches will be served each day from a total student role of 210 – impressive statistics, I am sure you will agree.

If you would like to make changes to the lunch provision at your school, why not contact us on 01483 523 993 for more information.
